What you need to know
District documents show CISD sold the stadium and nearby athletic fields for roughly $8.75 million. The revenue from the land sale will go into CISD’s general fund.
Southlake Mayor Shawn McCaskill said in a social media post that the city will preserve the football field, and possibly add new bleachers, a practice field, a playground and walking trail.
“We heard the concerns of our residents who did not want to see the site turned into residential or commercial development,” CISD board President Cameron Bryan said at the session. “In partnership with the city, we have ensured that Old Dragon Stadium will instead be turned into a community green space.”
The property covers nearly 15 acres, and includes the football stadium and bleachers, track, shot put areas, sand traps for golf practice, and a practice field, according to a map of the property.
District documents state that CISD officials deemed the stadium and athletic fields surplus property in 2023, as it no longer served an educational function.
Looking ahead
In the post, McCaskill said city officials will work with the community to gather ideas for the stadium and athletic fields’ renovation.
