The Texas Education Agency ratings for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years were released for districts across the state Aug. 15, with Grapevine-Colleyville ISD receiving a B rating for both school years

What happened?

The overall score for GCISD for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years was an 86 out of 100, or a B, for how well the district prepared students for future grade levels and post-high school preparedness, according to the TEA website.

“The district remains committed to engaging in a continuous improvement cycle that actively uses historical and current data to inform district and campus goals, set annual targets, and develop effective instructional strategies,” Superintendent Brad Schnautz said in a letter to district families.
More details

GCISD’s overall performance rating was calculated on an A-F grading scale using three sub-categories:
  • Student achievement, which looks at STAAR ratings, graduation rates and student success after high school
  • School progress, which measures how students perform over time and compares to other districts with similarly economically disadvantaged populations
  • Closing the gaps, which shows how well the district is ensuring all groups are successful
GCISD scored an 87 out of 100, or a B, for student achievement for both the 2024-25 and 2023-24 school years. This score shows that many students met their grade level on the STAAR test or that graduates are college ready.

GCISD’s school progress rating was a 79 out of 100, or a C, for the 2024-25 school year, which was up from a 78 from the 2023-24 school year. This shows that an average number of students demonstrated appropriate academic growth or that the school's achievement is average compared to similar schools, but needs to provide additional academic support to many more students, according to the TEA’s website.

GCISD scored an 84 out of 100, or a B, for closing the gaps in the 2024-25 and 2023-24 school years. This demonstrates recognized work at making sure student groups across multiple demographics are successful in their progress to long-term goals, per TEA’s website.

Diving deeper

GCISD's Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas was calculated by the TEA using the 2023-24 financial data, which shows how the district managed their money during the year. GCISD received a 92 out of 100 for both the 2023-24 and 2024-25 FIRST rating.

Out of 1,208 Texas school districts, 24% received a higher rating in the 2024-25 school year compared to 2023-24, while 64% kept the same rating and 12% received a lower rating, according to previous reporting.

The background

The 2023-24 ratings were blocked for nearly one year after 33 school districts across the state sued the TEA last August, Community Impact previously reported.

More than 100 school districts sued the state over the ratings in 2023, which delayed the 2022-23 ratings from being released until April 2025.

GCISD received an 85 out of 100, or a B, for the 2022-23 school year.
