What happened?
After walking their children to O.C. Taylor Elementary School, parents said their goodbyes ahead of class. The first bell sounded at 7:35 a.m. and students listened to the year's first announcement video.
Parents got together in the cafeteria to eat breakfast and write letters to their students at O.C. Taylor, which will be placed around the school, Principal Michael Schilleci said.

O.C. Taylor serves pre-K through fifth grade and is one of 11 elementary schools located in Grapevine and Colleyville. GCISD operates 21 schools in total, including:
- 2 high schools
- 4 middle schools
- 2 alternative schools
- 1 virtual academy
- 1 collegiate academy at Tarrant County College Northeast
The district board of trustees approved an instructional calendar for the 2025-26 school year that highlights what days students don't have classes, including:
- Sept. 1: Labor Day holiday
- Sept. 22: professional development day
- Oct. 10: instructional planning day
- Oct. 13: national holiday
- Nov. 3: professional development day
- Nov. 24-28: Thanksgiving break
- Dec. 19-Jan 6: einter break
- Jan. 19: Martin Luther King Jr. holiday
- Feb. 16: professional development day
- March 13-20: spring break
- April 3: Good Friday holiday
- May 21: last day of school
