The overview
The new principal, Alishia Ilic, will start her new role as the Glenhope principal July 1, according to a news release from GCISD.
Ilic is currently the assistant principal at Cross Timbers Middle School.
“Over the last year at Cross Timbers, I have had the privilege of learning under [Cross Timbers Principal Jamie] Halliburton and I am so excited to continue serving our students at Glenhope at the Elementary level and ensuring every single gator gets what they need to reach their full potential,” Ilich said.
The backstory
Prior to her role at Cross Timbers, Ilic served as the Elementary Curriculum Coordinator for English Language Arts and Reading in Burleson ISD, per the release. She also has experience teaching kindergarten, fifth grade and sixth grade in Burleson and Mansfield ISDs.
The current principal of Glenhope Elementary School, Wynette Griffin, is retiring after serving since August 2000.
Also on the agenda
The GCISD board of trustees unanimously approved $13.48 million to remove and replace the chill and hot water supply pipes throughout Colleyville Heritage High School.
The piping is in need of replacement due to the leaking problems, GCISD Chief Operations Officer Paula Barbaroux said.
“We did not feel like we could afford not to go forward with this project given the condition of the piping,” Barbaroux said. “We don’t want to have a major leak in that school and flood it.”
The construction is expected to start in May and take 29 months with the contracted completion set for Aug. 2, 2027, according to GCISD documents.
Additional details
The construction manager for the project, Lee Lewis Construction, asked for an allowance of $1.16 million extra to address the anticipated 6% increase in cost of subcontractor materials in the second and third year of construction.
If the $1.16 million allowance is used, professional fees will increase by $89,429, making the construction package $586,497 over budget, according to district documents. To pay for the surplus, the district recommended taking $586,497 out of the general facility improvements budget line.
The district is using the 2024 bond program to pay for the services.
