Two board of trustees positions are on the May 3 ballot in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD for Place 3 and Place 4.

The details

The filing period closed at 5 p.m. Feb. 14, and without any opposition filing against her, Kathy Florence-Spradley will serve another term as Place 4 trustee.

The race for Place 3 has two candidates. Incumbent Tammy Nakamura was first elected to the board in May of 2022 and has served as a past PTA president.

Challenger Matt Foust has served the district in various PTA roles, including as the legislative chair. He also served on the Advisory Committee during the 2024 bond election.

What the candidates are facing

School districts across the state face a funding crisis since funding hasn’t increased since 2019.

Although GCISD voters passed a voter approved tax rate election in November that is expected to generate $6 million to the district, officials are still concerned about the state of school funding and what will happen in regard to public education during the 89th Texas Legislature, which is currently in session.

To help keep district residents informed of these ongoing issues, GCISD officials have created a webpage that lists the district’s legislative priorities.

GCISD residents can find the following additional information on the webpage:
  • Contact information for GCISD’s legislators
  • A downloadable one-pager with GCISD’s priorities simplified
  • Access links to watch the House and Senate channels during the session to stay informed
