The backstory
According to a district news release, Smith’s most recent position was at East Texas Baptist University, where he was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Smith’s coaching career includes positions at several high schools and colleges across Texas and Mississippi, including:
- Athletic director of Ovilla Christian School
- Associate head coach and offensive coordinator at Midlothian Heritage High School
- Head football coach at Nelson University, formerly known as Southwestern Assemblies of God University
