What you need to know
GCISD officials maintain an inclement weather policy webpage. It states the district closely monitors weather and road conditions when inclement weather is in the forecast.
Should there be an inclement weather event that causes schools to be closed for an entire day, the webpage states that the announcement will be made early that same morning. Early release of classes already in session may be made if it appears that weather conditions are becoming worse and driving would be hazardous.
The webpage states that the district uses other platforms to get weather-related information out to district residents, including:
- An emergency notification system: If school is delayed or canceled due to a weather-related event, notices are sent directly to parents and employees by phone, email and text via the district's automated notification system
- The district website, which is the primary form of inclement weather communication for the district
- GCISD's mobile app
- Social media through the district’s Facebook and X/Twitter accounts
- Local television stations: Weather-related coverage can be found on local stations, including Fox 4, NBC 5, WFAA Channel 8 or CBS News Texas 11 for up-to-date information on school closings
The webpage states that parents and guardians should make sure that their contact information is up-to-date in Skyward Family Access so district communication regarding inclement weather is sent to the correct recipients.
