Here’s a look back at five of the biggest stories:
1. Voters pass Grapevine-Colleyville ISD tax ratification election
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD voters elected to ratify the school district's fiscal year 2024-25 tax rate during the Nov. 5 election through a voter-approval tax rate election, or VATRE, providing approximately $6 million in funding for school district operations.
The funding from the VATRE includes instruction, staff, extracurricular activities, transportation, maintenance and other daily operating expenses.
The proposition received 24,020 votes in favor, which is about 57.9% of the total vote, and 17,465 votes against, which is about 42.1% of the vote, according to election results from the county.
2. Results show voters support $150M Grapevine-Colleyville ISD bond package
The $150 million bond package was put together to address the district’s aging facilities, update technology and replace equipment at the swim center, district officials said.
- Proposition A allocates $134.2 million for safety, bus and school updates. There were 5,790 early votes for the proposition and 3,455 against it.
- Proposition B allocates $10.2 million for instructional technology. There were 5,948 early votes for the proposition and 3,386 against it.
- Proposition C allocates $5.5 million for swim center improvements. There were 5,600 early votes for the proposition and 3,628 against it.
In an effort to reduce distractions within the classroom, the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees passed a revised cellphone policy for students during a July 29 meeting.
The board unanimously approved revisions to its FNCE (Local) policy regarding cellphone use by students. The revision adds updated guidelines for cellphone use by elementary, middle and high school students, according to the meeting agenda.
4. UIL realignment changes Grapevine-Colleyville ISD opponents for 2024-25 and 2025-26
The University Interscholastic League announced the tentative 2024-25 and 2025-26 football, basketball and volleyball district assignments Feb. 1.
By realigning assignments, teams in Grapevine-Colleyville ISD will face new opponents over the next two school years.
