Grapevine-Colleyville ISD students returned to school Aug. 14 for the 2024-25 school year.

After walking their children to Heritage Elementary School, parents said their goodbyes ahead of class. Teachers got to work once the first bell sounded at 7:40 a.m., running through classroom rules with their students at the beginning of the year.

Heritage Elementary School teaches about 525 students each year, Principal Jill Hemme said. The school is one of 11 elementary schools located in Grapevine and Colleyville. GCISD operates 21 schools in total including:
  • 2 high schools
  • 4 middle schools
  • 2 alternative schools
  • 1 virtual academy
  • 1 collegiate academy at Tarrant County College Northeast

The 2024-25 instructional calendar was approved by the district board of trustees in December 2023. The calendar includes a list of professional development days for the district and details upcoming holidays. Highlights include:
  • Sept. 2: First district holiday
  • Sept. 23: First professional development day (no school for students)
  • Nov. 25-29: Thanksgiving Break
  • Dec. 23-Jan. 3: Winter Break
  • March 17-21: Spring Break
  • May 22: Last day of school
