Common household items used by students to hide alcohol, drugs or tobacco will be the focus of Grapevine-Colleyville ISD’s "Hidden in Plain Sight" parent presentation Oct. 24.

What you need to know

According to a district news release, a walk-through of a mock teenager’s bedroom filled with hidden or disguised paraphernalia will be the first thing parents will experience when they attend the presentation hosted by GCISD’s counseling team. The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. at the GCISD Professional Development and Education Center, located at 5800 Colleyville Blvd. in Colleyville.

The details

The news release states that the presentation is broken up into three parts:
  • The interactive display will be from 6-6:30 p.m.
  • The parent presentation will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • A panel discussion will be from 7:30-8 p.m.
Zooming in

The event is presented by the Stay on Track Coalition and will cover trends in drug use by young people, including how easily fentanyl can make its way into children’s lives and how a vape pen can be disguised as a highlighter, according to the news release. The event is for parents only and not students.
