The Grapevine-Colleyville ISD Technology Department has found a unique way to challenge staff members while helping them flex their team building muscles with the “Escape the Bus” contest.

The backstory

According to a district news release, teams from the district’s technology and transportation departments joined forces to find an old bus and breathe new life into it. The now high-tech bus features the following components that have turned it into a classroom on wheels:
  • Wi-Fi
  • Charging ports
  • Computers and monitor
Quote of note

"The bus allows GCISD staff to partner and interact with the community away from the physical building and take them places beyond the four walls," Executive Director of Technology Dwight Goodwin said.

Zooming in

During registration season, the bus is used on-site at community and campus events to help families across the district by offering them a chance to register for the upcoming school year with ease, the news release states. Now that the school year is well underway, the bus has transformed into an escape room for staff.

According to the news release, the “Escape the Bus” experience allows participants to step inside the bus and interact with puzzles and challenges that are centered around the district and its history. With an hour on the clock, teams have to unlock clues that take them on a learning journey from kindergarten to graduation.

The news release states that while the one-of-a-kind escape bus is currently being used for staff team-building, students will soon be able to go on their own problem-solving adventures in the bus.
