Full- and part-time employees at Carroll ISD could receive a one-time cost-of-living bonus, if the money is available in the fiscal year 2023-24 budget.

A special meeting was held Aug. 10 at 9 a.m., and the board voted 5-0 to approve a $2.3 million one-time expenditure that is being termed a welcome-back bonus.

Superintendent Lane Ledbetter said that teachers will receive the same amount of pay in the 2023-24 school year as they did in the 2022-23 school year. However, this one-time bonus would boost that number a bit.

There were two types of bonuses that were approved:
  • $2,000 for full-time employees that are scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week
  • $1,000 for part-time employees that are scheduled to work less than 20 hours per week
  • Substitute teachers and students workers were excluded from the one-time bonus.
What they’re saying

"Teachers are the lifeblood of a ISD, and at Carroll, we're blessed to have, I believe, the best teachers that make this—and many measures show it—the best performing ISD in the state of Texas,” Board Vice President Andrew Yeager said. "I'm going to be proud and honored to send and extend these funds to teachers, both full-time and part-time. It's what we can do; we'd love to do more. But I can say, in all honesty, that every opportunity this board has to put funds back to our teachers and keep them, retain them and help them with the cost of living, we're going to find those opportunities, and we're gonna capitalize on it, and this is one such case.”
