This year Carroll ISD students will be heading back to school Aug. 17 following the trustees’ decision to adopt the first draft of the proposed 2020-21 academic calendar.

The school year will end May 27, 2021.

The district’s board of trustees proposed two different calendars at its Dec. 16 meeting. Following several weeks of receiving community feedback, the option with the later professional development day and spring bad-weather day was selected.

According to the approved calendar, the following school holidays are scheduled with schools closed to teachers and parents:

Labor Day: Sept. 7

Thanksgiving break: Nov. 23-27

Winter break: Dec. 21-Jan. 1

Martin Luther King Jr. Day: Jan. 18

School holiday: Feb. 15

Spring break: March 15-19

Staff development and teacher workdays are scheduled for Aug. 10-14, Oct. 9, Jan. 4, Feb. 16, May 28 and April 2.

Feb. 12 and April 2 are also being reserved as bad-weather makeup days, according to the calendar.

In total, the 2020-21 school year will include 175 student days and 187 days for CISD teachers.
