The United States Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services’ Summer Food Service Program is providing free breakfast and lunch to children ages 18 and younger from June 4-Aug. 10.
The program is striving to ensure that low-income children have access to healthy meals over the summer while school is not in session. These meals provide the essential nutrients needed for active growing children, according to a press release from Grapevine-Colleyville ISD.
Students will select at least three components for each meal, one of which must be a fruit or vegetable during lunch. All food must be consumed at the serving site, and ‘to-go’ meals are prohibited. Eating meals on site ensures students are eating complete and nutritional meals.
This summer, USDA plans to serve more than 200 million free meals at approved SFSP sites.
Silver Lake Elementary School, 1301 N. Dooley St., Grapevine, will serve breakfast from 7-8 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-noon June 4-July 13.
Cross Timbers Middle School, 2301 Pool Road, Grapevine, will serve breakfast between 7:30-8:30 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m.-noon June 4-Aug. 10.
