The National Council for Home Safety and Security recently identified the city of Colleyville as the safest city in Texas. In addition, Neighborhood Scout, a real estate data website, recently ranked Colleyville as the 11th-safest city in the United States.
The NCHSS recognized that Colleyville’s 0.26 violent crimes per 1,000 people is 26 times lower than the national state average.
Interim Chief of Police Robert Hinton credited the safety ranking to the relationship between the citizens and the police department.
Colleyville police reported a 2 percent decrease in crime in 2017. The decrease came from fewer property crimes, which include burglaries and thefts. Data shows the city reported 37 reported burglary cases in 2017 compared to 45 in 2016. The city also reported 34 vehicle burglary cases in 2017 compared to 41 in 2016.
The list was compiled by factoring both the number of violent crimes and property crimes per 1,000 people. These variables were then weighted, with violent crimes assigned a value of 1.5 times that of property crimes due to their severity.
