Playa Bowls, an açai shop originating in New Jersey, has opened a location in Southlake.

The details

Local franchise owner Anupam Reddy runs a business that offers nutritious food and beverage items such as açai bowls, smoothies, cold brew, and more, according to a news release.

Guests can choose from the menu's bowls or customize their own with açai, pitaya, coconut, kale, banana, oatmeal, or mango. According to the website, topping selections include fresh-cut fruits, seeds, nuts, granola, dried berries, and nut butter. Bowls can be made vegan or gluten-free and adapted to keto or paleo diets.

During the grand opening event, lines formed to receive free bowls and a t-shirt, according to Playa Bowls' social media channels.

The background

Reedy and his wife Monal, a pediatric pulmonologist at Cook Children’s who grew up in New Jersey, share a commitment to health and wellness and plan to open additional locations in Prosper and Dallas, according to a news release.

Playa Bowls is located within the Park Village shopping center and moved into the spot that formerly housed Rush Bowls.

What they're saying

“Southlake has such a strong sense of community, and I’m excited to introduce Playa Bowls’ fresh, high-quality offerings to the area,” Anupam Reedy said. “After living in Atlanta and New York City, where Playa Bowls had a presence, I saw firsthand how Playa Bowls can bring people together and inspire healthier lifestyles. The shop quickly became a favorite spot for my wife and I, and now, as we plant roots in Texas, we’re thrilled to share that experience with our new community.”
