Benny Polisi got his start in the restaurant industry cleaning tables as a busboy at a breakfast joint. Decades later, he has come full circle to own his own brunch spot called Benny’s Cafe.

He opened the first Benny’s in McKinney before adding a location along SH 26 in Colleyville.

“I had some customers telling me about coming around here,” said Polisi.

Polisi said he wanted to focus on a breakfast concept, partly to branch out and partly because of his daughter, Donika.

“Her favorite meal is pancakes,” he said. “Every morning, I used to take her for breakfast. ... Her favorite was Mickey Mouse[-shaped], and now, she wants pancakes with Nutella.”

Since its opening in April 2019, Benny’s in Colleyville has been serving up classic breakfast and lunch fare, including omelets, waffles, pancakes, salads, burgers and wraps. The menu also carries vegetarian and gluten-free options. Everything is made to order and fresh, said Polisi, who described the food as “country-style.”

“In other words, nothing fancy: just good taste,” he said. “That’s my strategy.”

The most popular item offered at Benny’s is its Bacado Omelet made with three eggs, Monterey Jack cheese, bacon, spinach, tomatoes and sliced avocado.

Polisi occasionally updates the menu to refresh it. One added dish that became popular is the from-scratch buffalo chicken burger served on brioche bread. It is one of Polisi’s personal favorites.

“I have a bunch of first-timers who come by and try [the food],” he said. “I’ll tell them, ‘It will not be your last visit,’ and after they eat, they always tell me, ‘We’ll be back.’”
