The Pollo Tropical location in Southlake at 2640 Southlake Blvd. closed Oct. 24, according to owner Fiesta Restaurant Group.

The Southlake location opened in February and served Caribbean inspired dishes such as corn fritters, sweet plantains, sandwiches, soups and desserts.

In total Fiesta Restaurant Group is closing 10 Pollo Tropical restaurants, with eight of the stores located in North Texas including stores in Frisco, Denton, Dallas and Watauga.

The closures are a part of Fiesta Restaurant Group's plans to cut operating losses.

“After a period of aggressively growing Pollo Tropical in Texas we have hit the pause button to focus on building brand affinity, frequency and awareness, while continuing balanced system development over time," Danny Meisenheimer, interim Fiesta president and CEO said. "We believe closing or rebranding these underperforming stores provides the opportunity to further strengthen our operational and financial performance across the remaining restaurants in Texas and across our Pollo Tropical brand as a whole.”

Fiesta Restaurant Group is also the parent company of Taco Cabana. Up to three of the closed Pollo Tropical locations will be rebranded as Taco Cabana restaurants.

According to Fiesta, nearly all employees at the closed locations will be offered positions at nearby restaurants.
