Plans for an outdoor pavilion, soccer field and pickleball courts at 121 Community Church in Grapevine were approved in a joint meeting between the Grapevine City Council and Planning and Zoning Commission on Sept. 17.

The details

The proposed sports park will feature a 3,040-square-foot pavilion, a 100-square-foot storage building, a 4,000-square-foot soccer field, a 2,024-square-foot pickleball court and a 2,016-square-foot open area that will be covered in synthetic turf, according to the presentation.

What else?

The pickleball court and the soccer field will both feature LED lighting. The soccer field will be sized for 3v3 play, while the pickleball addition will have two playing courts, according to documents.

There will be a pedestrian path from the church parking lot, located at 2701 Ira E. Woods Ave., to Ponderosa Drive, according to the presentation.

The hours for the park will be from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 5 a.m. to midnight on Friday and Saturday. Restroom access will be available during the church's open hours, according to the presentation.

Quote of note

“We just continue to look for ways that we can utilize our space to serve the community, especially the Mustang Drive community,” 121 Lead Pastor Ross Sawyers said. “On that land, it's our desire to have a small sports park that we can have available to serve the community around us, as well as beyond us. Our mission has been to lead people to live for Jesus Christ. That's our hope and our goal.”
