An empty Colleyville church will soon have two houses nearby while a search continues for a new tenant.

During the Aug. 20 Colleyville City Council meeting, a rezoning application from agriculture to single-family residential was approved.

A plan presented by Compass Realty in Colleyville showcased a development called Fegan Place.

The details

The properties at 6001 and 6005 Pleasant Run Road combined for a 3.16-acre lot where the former Pleasant Run Baptist Church is located. According to the Historical Marker Database, the land where the church sits was recognized by the Texas Historical Commission in 1978. The Baptist Church of Christ of Pleasant Run was organized on April 7, 1877, according to the marker.

The rezoning will allow for the construction of up to three houses, but Compass Realty CEO and owner John Fegan said he hasn’t found a deal yet to fill the church.

He said he has talked to multiple people interested and has got a verbal offer, but nothing concrete has come to fruition. He said the church had to be taken down to the studs inside due to termite issues when he took over as the property owner.

“I prefer to do a church,” he said. “I want to spread the gospel as much as anyone else.”

What you need to know

The plan is to build two homes, each on 1.5-acre lots, according to city documents. The expected sales price for the homes will range from $3.5 million to $4 million, and each home would generate $10,000 per year in tax revenue, according to documents.

If a church tenant cannot be found, Fegan has the option to tear it down and build another house on the lot.
