The amount of community spread of COVID-19 in Tarrant County continues to be ranked as substantial by the county’s public health department.
Among the cities of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake, Grapevine had the greatest number of new confirmed cases with 64 between July 13-20. That brings the total number of cases in that ZIP code, which also has the largest population among the three cities, to 352.
The second-highest number of new cases in the past week was in Southlake, which reported 29 cases, bringing its total count to 162.
Colleyville reported 26 new cases during the same time frame, bringing its total number of cases to 141, data shows. In Tarrant County, there have been 3,592 new cases of the novel coronavirus between July 13-19. That is a 19% increase in the total number of confirmed cases since July 13. This brings the total number of cases in Tarrant County to 22,002, according to data. Data shows those in the 25-44 age group in Tarrant County have had the largest number of positive cases, followed by ages 45-64. In addition, the data shows 27 deaths in Tarrant County during the past seven days. The total number of deaths since tracking began in March is 299 for Tarrant County. Those age 65 and older account for 67% of all deaths in the county thus far.
Among the key indicators to watch among health experts is the number of hospitalizations. Tarrant County reported 662 lab-confirmed COVID-19 patients hospitalized as of July 19. That number has generally remained steady over the last two weeks. Hospital capacity in the 13-county area of North Texas is being tracked by The Institute for Urban Policy Research at The University of Texas at Dallas. Data as of July 20 shows the following from those 13 counties:
Total occupancy rate: 69.4% (based on 15,561 total beds and 10,801 total patients)
Intensive care unit occupancy rate: 74.7% (based on 2,355 ICU beds and 1,758 ICU patients)
Ventilator utilization rate: 42.8% (based on 1,886 ventilators and 808 ventilators in use
