As the sun rose Sept. 11, Grapevine Assistant Fire Chief Stuart Grant began welcoming guests to a ceremony to remember the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
In a Day of Remembrance ceremony that took place at 1000 Texan Trail in Grapevine, flags were lowered to half-staff at 7:46 a.m. to remember the victims 16 years after the events of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. A prayer of remembrance and a bell ceremony for the firefighters who died were also observed.

“Never forgetting means never forgetting,” Fire Chief Darrell Brown said in a statement. “Just because the years roll on by, it should not ever mean that we do not reflect on how we felt on that day. There are many people who do not remember or were not old enough to know what that did to our country. We grieve for the lives that were taken from us but rejoice in the sense of patriotism that overwhelmed the United States of America.”
Moments of silence were observed at 7:46 a.m. and 8:03 a.m., at the times in the Central Time Zone when the planes struck the north and south towers, respectively, of the World Trade Center in New York City.
The brief event concluded at 8:05 a.m.
“With all that is going on in our world today, there are still many patriotic people who wish to see the good and help others,” Brown said in his statement. “Never forget.”
