On Oct. 1, Colleyville City Council heard a first reading to rezone a property at 1701 John McCain Road, Colleyville, from light manufacturing to planned unit development. The applicant, Peggy Finley, intends to allow for a mix of uses on the property, including general and medical office spaces, according to city documents.
"What they’re wanting to do is open up some office and medical uses, which are not allowed in this district," Director of Community Development Ben Bryner said.
The property is presently occupied as an office showroom. Bryner said rezoning this property will allow the property to maintain some of its current uses, in addition to creating some new allowed uses.
Council Member George Dodson said he was concerned that opening the zoning options for this property could result in issues with solid waste disposals, and Mayor Richard Newton added some concerns of his own.
"We don’t like the [light manufacturing] zoning anywhere," Newton said. "So we’re looking for opportunities to get that to change. We don’t want to do anything to make it easier for that [use] to be here."
As this was the first reading, the council took no action, but the item will be discussed at the next Colleyville City Council meeting.
