At the Grapevine-Colleyville ISD board of trustees meeting July 23, Deputy Superintendent Brad Schnautz provided a report of the district's drug-testing program to the board of trustees. The program is mandatory for GCISD students in competitive extracurricular activities.

In the 2017-18 school year, nine tests returned positive for marijuana substances, one test returned positive for cocaine and one student refused to test, which automatically qualified as a failed drug test. This brought the total positive illegal substance count for the school year to 11, which is the same amount of total positives as the previous school year.

Trustee Jesse Rodriguez pointed out among the eight types of drug results listed, none of them were for opioids or meth. He asked about the ability to see these drug results in future tests. Schnautz said he could communicate with the testing corporation to see if this could be addressed.

This item was for informational purposes only, and the board took no action.

In other business, following an executive session, the trustees elected a president, vice president and secretary of the board. Lisa Pardo was elected as president, Louie Sullins was elected as vice president, and Mindy McClure was elected to the position of board secretary.
