Carroll ISD board President Chris Archer has filed to run for the Southlake City Council Place 6 seat.

The vacancy was left by Gary Fawks, who announced his resignation May 16 due to a job promotion.

In a Facebook post, Archer wrote that he will be giving up his board of trustees position.

Archer wrote: "I am extremely excited at the opportunity to continue to serve the city of Southlake in an expanded capacity as a City Council member, but [I] will certainly miss serving as CISD board of trustee[s] president. I do intend to remain on the school board in my role as board president until the special election occurs in the fall."

As of June 14, Archer is the only candidate for the seat. The filing period ends at 5 p.m. on July 10.

The special election will be held Sept. 9. Early voting will begin Aug. 23 and end Sept. 5.
