Owner Jessica Cruz confirmed the store once on Main Street in downtown Grapevine would open inside Grapevine Mills. She said the plan is to have a grand opening March 1-2 to celebrate Texas Independence Day.
How it happened
The store celebrated its 10th anniversary in Grapevine Aug. 22, 2024, and closed Jan. 20. It will now move into a spot where Lunar Mini Golf recently closed.
The Texas-themed store sells unique gifts, apparel, decor and food items that are made in Texas or have a Texas flair, according to its website.
Cruz said the goal was to stay on historic Main Street, but once that wasn’t feasible she looked at another notable location in Grapevine.
“Honestly, my biggest worry was if Grapevine Mills could even be a possibility,” Cruz said. “We don't really ever see leasable options in the mall ... with the world-renowned entertainment, experiences and merchants they attract, why would they need us?”
The former mini golf location will provide about 500 more square feet than the Main Street location, which will allow Cruz to add more Texas-centric gifts to sell.
Cruz said the business will add a custom cowboy hat bar and new products and items.
What else?
DFW Airport announced that Texas General Store will be a new addition to Terminal D. It will be located near Gate D36, according to a social media post, but no timeline has been provided.
Cruz said it had been in the works to join DFW and will be located in a terminal that features 10 international carriers. The offerings at the airport will be a scaled-down version of the store.
“We're extremely grateful to be working with worldwide retail operator, WH Smith, to create a Texas General Store in Terminal D of DFW Airport,” Cruz said. “The vision was really to be a marketing arm of sorts for Grapevine, giving international travelers a little tease of what they can experience just down the street from the airport."
