The couple previously owned karate businesses in Coppell and Trophy Club before merging with Texas Isshinryu Karate Kai in Grapevine, where they taught through the end of 2024.
“Martial arts had given us so much, and we wanted to pass that along to others, especially in our own community,” Grace Murray said.
Kyle Murray started training in Isshinryu Karate in 1997 and has worked continuously under his instructor, Hanshi Robert Kristensen. Murray is currently a 5th-degree Black Belt and holds the title of Renshi, which translates to polished teacher.
Grace Murray started training in 2010 under Kristensen and Kyle Murray. She is currently a 3rd-degree Black Belt and holds the title of Sensei, which translates to teacher, according to the business website.

The Trophy Club location is one of eight independently owned and operated locations in North Texas.
The school offers programs for preschool, kids, teens and adults. The curriculum includes self defense, forms and sparring, judo and aikido, self defense from the ground and Okinawan Kobudo. The institution also offers self-defense seminars; holiday and summer camps; parent’s night out programs and sparring nights, Grace Murray said.
