A guitar-smashing event was held Jan. 24 to celebrate the construction of Grapevine’s new Rock & Brews restaurant.

Mayor William D. Tate did the honors of smashing a nonfunctional guitar at the site of the upcoming eatery. The event was held instead of a typical groundbreaking or ribbon-cutting ceremony.

“We’re very excited today to get to this point, and it’s going to be a wonderful addition to our community,” Tate said.

Rock & Brews is a national chain of rock ‘n’ roll-themed restaurants, co-founded by KISS frontmen and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons, a news release states.

The restaurant is expected to open in Grapevine this year with 7,000 square-feet of indoor seating and 5,500-square feet of indoor/outdoor patios, which are dog-friendly, according to a news release. The Grapevine location will create 150 local jobs, officials said.

“We have a dog menu,” said Dave Stevens, vice president of operations for Rock & Brews. “It’s really, really fun to come on a Saturday and see all the pets everywhere.”
