The holiday season has barely begun, but the city is already gearing up for elections in May.

The three seats on Frisco City Council up for election in May are the mayor and council Places 5 and 6. Filing begins Jan. 15 and ends Feb. 14.

New requirements are in place this year for filing for office. On top of filling out a candidate application, candidates must also submit either a $200 filing fee or a petition of signatures from qualified voters. The petition should have either 25 signatures or 0.5% of the total votes received in Frisco in the last mayoral election, according to the city secretary’s office.

These new requirements were approved by voters this past May in a charter amendment election.

Candidates must be at least age 18 and have lived in Frisco for a minimum of one year before filing for office.

Those interested in filing to run for a seat on City Council can find candidate packets posted online later in December at www.friscotexas.gov/672/elections.
