Ongoing construction to redevelop The Rail District has closed additional side streets in Frisco.

Reconstruction tackling downtown Frisco’s Main Street was extended to North County Road ahead of incoming construction on Fourth Street Plaza, which is expected to begin this week, according to a Sept. 16 city news release.

The big picture

The construction has caused traffic to shift, according to the release.

Eastbound traffic was shifted to the north side of the median from First Street to North County Road where traffic was shifted back to the south side. That system will remain in place until the next traffic switch in a few months.

The road work also closed multiple smaller streets south of Main Street, including Sixth Street and Seventh Street. A portion of Third Street between Elm Street and Half Main Street also closed, according to the release.

Other side streets near The Rail District that have closed since construction began include:
  • First Street
  • Frisco Square Boulevard
  • Fourth Street

The action taken

The city has established the following detours around the construction and closed roads:
  • Eastbound traffic on Frisco Square Boulevard can detour to First Street then Elm Street
  • Northbound traffic on First Street can go to John W. Elliot Drive to reach Main Street
  • Northbound traffic on Third and Fourth streets can go to Fifth Street to reach Main Street
  • Northbound traffic on Sixth and Seventh streets can take South County Road to reach Main Street

City officials recommend drivers headed downtown use Waze, a navigation system the city regularly updates with road closures or detours.
