The Public Utility Commission of Texas approved adopting additional area code 945, according to a March 3 press release, to accommodate the area’s growing population.
It is estimated that phone numbers beginning with 214, 469 and 972 will run out at the beginning of 2021, per the release. When they do, new numbers will employ the 945 area code.
The 945 area code is expected to meet numbering needs for 13 additional years, per the release. Those with 214, 469 and 972 area codes will keep them.
“The growth of the population in Dallas and surrounding cities is a reflection of the continued economic vitality in the region and across the state,” Gov. Greg Abbott said in the release. “When the availability of jobs intersects with the quality of life in Texas, this kind of growth is to be expected.”
