Beginning March 20, the Denton County Transportation Authority will begin offering rides for Frisco residents into Plano for medical purposes. The DCTA has been offering services for elderly and disabled Frisco residents since December 2015. Residents often request rides from the DCTA for work, to run errands or for medical visits. The service offers rides within Frisco, McKinney and Allen. After the DCTA received feedback from riders desiring trips into Plano, Frisco City Council approved expanding its contract with the DCTA last September. The expanded services will be part of a pilot taxi partnership program with the DCTA. The pilot program will allow ambulatory passengers—those who do not need assistance—to receive a taxi ride when a shuttle is not available. Adding taxis to the transit service will allow any of the service vehicles to provide trips into Plano anywhere west of Coit Road, which is where a majority of medical services are available. The fares and transit schedule will remain the same under the pilot program.
