The city of Frisco has ranked No. 9 in a study of the best minor league baseball towns of 2016. The city is up six spots from No. 15 last year. The study, conducted by financial software company SmartAsset, ranked 158 cities across the country based on quality of life in the city and the game-day experience. Frisco is home to the Frisco RoughRiders, the Class Double-A baseball affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The RoughRiders' finished the 2016 season 63-76 overall. In 2015, the team unveiled a new logo and branding and announced major upgrades to Dr Pepper Ballpark, home of the RoughRiders. The ballpark upgrades included adding a 2,700-square-foot high-definition video board, overhauling the ballpark's restaurant and team-merchandise store and adding an open-air sports bar. The ballpark also opened the Choctaw Lazy River in June. The lazy river stretches 400 feet as part of the ballpark's hospitality area. According to the SmartAsset study, "the typical Frisco resident has more money at their disposal than their counterparts in every other city and town in our analysis."
