The new station opened in what officials say is one of the fastest growing areas of Frisco.
City officials celebrated the grand opening of Fire Station No. 10 at a hose-uncoupling event June 30. Instead of cutting a ribbon to commemorate the opening of the new station, city officials uncoupled a Frisco fire hose.
The details
Fire Station No. 10 sits on Fields Parkway in northwest Frisco near the Fields development. Firefighters at the station have access to an indoor and outdoor workout space, as well as individual dorms.
It’s a three-bay station where 12 firefighters will work.
“Sometimes it's difficult to believe that this department has grown to 10 stations since I first became involved with it over 30 years ago, but here we are,” Frisco Fire Chief Lee Glover said at the grand opening event.
The station cost $16 million and was paid for by 2019 voter-approved bond funds. Frisco fire stations 9 and 6 previously served this area of the city.
What they’re saying
City Manager Wes Pierson said the new station is an accomplishment for the city but that there’s more to be done.
“There’s more fire stations to build,” he said. “There’s more firefighters to hire, more police to hire.”
Mayor Jeff Cheney said the new station demonstrates the city’s commitment to public safety.
“This is the fastest growing part of our city,” Cheney said. “Taking a proactive approach to having this station open and built as the growth is happening is really important and a commitment to make sure that we keep our residents safe.”
