Frisco City Council approved an agreement for the funding and construction of the new court between the city, FC Dallas Foundation and the Frisco Community Development Corporation at its meeting June 17.
The new court will be at the city-owned Warren Sports Complex. The city chose the complex because of its central location in Frisco.
The details
Futsal is a variation of soccer played by two teams of five players on a small, hard court using a low-bounce ball.
A dedicated futsal court will meet rising demand for the sport and keep residents local, according to city documents.
The Frisco Community Development Corporation will contribute a maximum of $127,275 for the court, per the agreement. The FC Dallas Foundation will contribute $90,000 and cover costs in excess of $217,275.
No timeline was provided for the court’s completion.
What else?
FC Dallas proposed the public-private partnership for the court in anticipation of the 2026 World Cup. Several of FC Dallas’ sponsors will have logos displayed on the court.
The city will maintain the court and keep it public for a minimum of 10 years, according to the agreement. The community development corporation will undertake construction of the court.
