The Economic Development Corporation board has a new Frisco ISD representative.

Frisco City Council members unanimously approved FISD board member Gopal Ponangi’s appointment to the EDC’s board of directors during a Nov. 7 meeting.

In case you missed it

Ponangi officially replaces former FISD board member Debbie Gillespie on the EDC board, according to meeting documents. Her official resignation from the board was also unanimously approved by council members during the meeting.

Gillespie retired from the FISD board last year, Mayor Jeff Cheney said.

“We want to thank Debbie [Gillespie] for her dedicated service to our school district for, I believe, 12 years,” Cheney said. "And then certainly serving the city on our Economic Development Corporation board as well."

Council members Bill Woodard and Brian Livingston were not present at the meeting, making the two votes 4-0 approvals.

What’s next?

Ponangi will serve the remainder of Gillespie’s three-year term, which expires Sept. 30, 2024.
