Universal Kids Frisco is one step closer to its June 2026 opening.

Frisco Planning and Zoning Commission members unanimously approved a preliminary site plan for the park during their Aug. 8 meeting.

The gist

Here are some of the details approved in the preliminary site plan, according to meeting documents:
  • An 8-foot-tall berm and hedge screen in a 30-foot buffer along Dallas Parkway
  • A 6-foot-tall berm and hedge screen in a 25-foot buffer along Fields Parkway and Panther Creek Parkway
  • A 6-foot tall berm and hedge screen in an 18.5-foot buffer along Frisco Street
The site plan was originally on the commission’s July 25 agenda, but the applicant submitted a letter requesting a short extension, Director of Development Services John Lettelleir said at the July meeting.

Remember this?

Plans to bring a Universal theme park to the Frisco side of the Dallas North Tollway were first announced in early January.

Since then, there have been multiple town halls, conferences and public hearings leading up to the official approval of its specific-use permit for the land at a March 7 City Council meeting.

Some confirmed features of the theme park include:
  • A 300-room themed hotel
  • Four or five themed park areas
  • Separate parking lots for park visitors and hotel guests
Plans for the theme park list the size at 30 acres, leaving more than 60 acres of the 97.4-acre piece of land for future expansions.

Plans for the theme park are expected to be discussed further at future commission meetings.
