The total number of Frisco mosquito pools that have tested positive for West Nile virus is now up to 18 as five more pools were found to have the virus.

No human cases have been confirmed. The city will spray the affected areas from 9 p.m.-6 a.m. the nights of July 30 and 31.

The areas to be sprayed are: the Teel Parkway and Lebanon road area; Waterfall Drive south of Eldorado Parkway; the Frisco Lakes neighborhood; south of Main Street between Teel Parkway and Legacy Drive; and a targeted area south of Lebanon Road. Click here to see individual maps of each area.

“It only takes one bite from an infected mosquito to increase your chances of getting sick,” Frisco environmental health supervisor Julie Stallcup said in a news release.

The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 13 cases of either West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease in Texas so far this year. One case of the neuroinvasive disease was confirmed in both Collin and Denton counties. TDSHS recommends following four steps to avoid mosquitos:

  • Wear insect repellent containing DEET.

  • Drain standing water.

  • Wear long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn.

  • Use air conditioning, and secure windows and screens.
