Primary races for the Texas Senate District 30 seat are headed to a runoff election in May after candidates in either party failed to receive at least 50% of the vote.

In the Republican primary race, Brent Hagenbuch received 35,204 votes, about 36.38% of the total. Jace Yarbrough received 32,839 votes, about 33.94% of the total. Carrie De Moor received 17,037 votes, about 17.61% of the total. Cody Clark received 11,686 votes, about 12.08% of the total.

In the Democratic primary race, Michael Braxton received 7,792 votes, about 37.69% of the total. Dale Frey received 6,823 votes, about 33% of the total. Matthew McGhee received 6,058 votes, about 29.3% of the total.

Results are unofficial until canvassed. Runoff elections for the primary are scheduled May 28, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website.

Brent Hagenbuch continues to lead the Republican primary race for the Texas Senate District 30 seat while Michael Braxton has pulled ahead in the Democratic primary race.

With 57 out of 314 precincts reporting, Hagenbuch has received 23,556 votes so far, about 38.98% of the total. Jace Yarbrough has received 19,810 votes, about 32.78% of the total. Carrie De Moor has received 10,190 votes, about 16,86% of the total. Cody Clark has received 6,874 votes, about 11.38% of the total.


Braxton has inched ahead with 4,318 votes received, about 36.55% of the total. Dal Frey has received 4,190 votes, about 35.47% of the total. Matthew McGhee has received 3,305 votes, about 27.98% of the total.

Brent Hagenbuch is leading the Republican primary race and Dale Frey is leading the Democratic primary race for the Texas Senate District 30 race, according to early voting results.

Hagenbuch is leading with 862 votes, about 39.18% of the total. Jace Yarbrough has received 755 votes, about 34.32% of the total. Carrie De Moor has received 300 votes, about 13.64% of the total. Cody Clark has received 283 votes, about 12.86% of the total.

Frey is leading the Democratic primary race with 2,943 votes, about 39.55% of the total. Michael Braxton has received 2,351 votes, about 31.59% of the total. Matthew McGhee has received 2,148 votes, about 28.86% of the total.

Candidates who win the primary will face each other for an open seat on the Texas Senate during the November general election. Incumbent Drew Springer announced he would not seek reelection in November 2023, according to a news release.

Springer was first elected to the Texas House of Representatives in 2013. He was then elected to the senate in 2021. His current term ends Jan. 14, 2025.

The District 30 seat represents portions of Frisco, McKinney, Plano, Prosper, Celina and Lewisville, according to the Texas Senate’s website.
