According to unofficial results, Republican candidate Kevin Falconer won the Denton County Precinct 2 commissioner seat.

With all 238 precincts reporting, Falconer collected more votes than Democratic candidate Diana Weitzel during the Nov. 8 general elections.

Election results show Falconer pulled in 41,104 votes, or 54.95%, while Weitzel collected 33,696 votes, or 45.05%.

“I'm excited and honored to serve the residents of Denton County,” Falconer said. “It's always humbling to realize that people take time out of their day, and actually come and cast a vote in your favor.”

Falconer said his main priority as he takes office is making Denton County safe, first through working with the county sheriff, and second with the passing of Proposition A, which will help reduce traffic and congestion as the county grows, he said.

“We're really excited that people are so excited to move to Denton County, but we have to make sure that we have good positive growth,” he said. “And one of the ways to make sure we're doing that is to make sure transportation is done properly.”

Another priority is to ensure that the county is fiscally responsible and help “reduce the burden” in Texas with property taxes, Falconer said.

“It’s been a long campaign, so we’re just excited to get on with the job,” he said.
