As of 5 p.m. Jan. 21, four candidates have submitted applications to Frisco ISD seeking seats on the board of trustees.

The filing period for the May 7 general election began Jan. 19. FISD voters will decide who sits in places 1, 2 and 3 on the school board.

Place 1

Incumbent Gopal Ponangi has filed for another term on Place 1. Ponangi has served on the board since 2019, according to the district website. He is a senior manager at Tata Consultancy Services and has been a Frisco ISD resident since 2003.

Place 2


Current board member Natalie Hebert has filed for re-election to Place 2. Hebert has served on the board since 2019, the website stated. She is a certified teacher and has been a Frisco ISD resident since 2004.

Kelly Karthik has also filed seeking the Place 2 seat. Karthik works as the chief people and growth officer at technology solutions firm CorCam, her election filing stated. She has been a Frisco ISD resident for six years.

Place 3

Dustin Paschal has filed for the Place 3 seat, which is currently held by incumbent Chad Rudy, who announced earlier that he will not seek another term. Paschal works as an attorney, according to his election filing. He has been a Frisco ISD resident for nearly four years.


In addition to the election filings, seven other people have filed campaign treasurer appointments, which is among the first steps involved in running for elective office. Those filings were made by Brian Bash, John Davis, Michael Draper, Angela Dunford, Stephanie Elad, Marvin Lowe and Jennifer Stanley.

The last day to file for a place on the ballot is Feb. 18. The last day to register to vote to participate in this election is April 7.
