As 2025 approaches, take a look back at Community Impact’s 2024 coverage of Frisco ISD and its school board. News included the district opening a new wing of the Career and Technical Education Center, the school board approving a 3% raise for staff members, the district opening enrollment for out-of-district students, and more.

1. Frisco ISD opens new Career and Technical Education Center wing, expands student capacity

FISD debuted its $22.1 million CTE wing addition for the 2024-25 school year. With the new wing comes nearly 30 extra classrooms and 45,363 additional square feet along with new rooms and labs like the esports lab. The new wing, known as the G Wing, was added to expand existing courses and offer additional courses in the curriculum.

2. Frisco ISD to open enrollment for area students in 2025-26 school year

Access Frisco will allow kindergarten through seventh grade students from surrounding areas to attend Frisco ISD schools starting in the 2025-26 school year. The district’s board of trustees discussed the program during a Nov. 18 meeting. Opening campuses up for outside enrollment will help fill classrooms with low enrollment. The district has about 900 open seats available across all the campuses in the kindergarten through seventh grade window.


3. Frisco ISD voters oppose all $1.08B bond propositions

Frisco ISD voters saw a $1.08 billion bond package as well as a tax rate election on the November ballot. The bond totaling $1.08 billion is broken down by three propositions that touch on maintenance, technology and sports facilities. Voters denied all three propositions from the district's $1.08 billion bond package, as well as the district’s proposed tax rate election.

4. Frisco ISD sees second-highest PTA participation in Texas

When the Frisco ISD 2024-25 school year began, more than 24,000 Parent Teacher Association members also headed back to school. FISD has the second-highest participation rate for PTAs in Texas at 24,796 members in 2023, said Cyndi Arakas, president of the FISD Council of PTAs, a support network for FISD’s 74 campuses and 73 PTA groups.


5. Frisco ISD officials to focus on support systems, culture of respect in 2024-25 school year

Sharing the successes of Frisco ISD students and meeting the various needs of students are among two goals in the district’s improvement plan for the 2024-25 school year. The plan’s purpose is to work toward improvement efforts through the school year and serves as an accountability system for the district.

6. Frisco ISD officials OK $963M budget with $30.8M potential shortfall

Frisco ISD officials adopted a total budget of $963.78 million with a potential $30.81 million shortfall in the general fund for fiscal year 2024-25. The budget’s potential revenue shortfall is not considered a forecast deficit for FY 2024-25 as the district typically has about $10 million to $15 million each year that is not spent in the proposed budget. The budget was unanimously approved by the district's board of trustees May 15 and was discussed by trustees through a series of workshops that started in February.


7. Frisco ISD officials OK 3% raise for teachers, staff in 2024-25 school year

Frisco ISD teachers and staff members will receive a 3% raise in the 2024-25 school year. The district’s 2024-25 compensation plan was approved by the board of trustees May 15. Eligible employees will receive a raise that is either 3% of the midpoint of their pay grade or 3% of their base wages, whichever is higher. Starting teacher salaries will increase from $59,000 in the 2023-24 school year to $60,500 in the 2024-25 school year.

8. Frisco ISD sets academic calendar for 2025-26 school year

Frisco ISD students will return to school for the 2025-26 school year on Aug. 13, 2025. The district’s board of trustees approved the calendar Nov. 18. The calendar was created by the district’s calendar committee which consisted of FISD staff, community members and students.


9. Frisco ISD officials approve settlement agreement for electioneering lawsuit

Frisco ISD officials have approved a settlement agreement with the Texas attorney general for the electioneering lawsuit filed earlier this year. The district’s board of trustees approved the settlement Sept. 16. The settlement will allow FISD to avoid additional expenses and use of resources required for a full trial which was set Sept. 30, according to an emailed statement from an FISD spokesperson.

10. Frisco Education Foundation supports Frisco ISD teachers, students

In its 25-year history, the Frisco Education Foundation has awarded more than $10.7 million in scholarships to Frisco ISD seniors.The Frisco Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works in partnership with Frisco ISD and the local community to provide educational opportunities and other benefits for students and teachers. The foundation was established in 1999 and has awarded college scholarships to over 10,000 FISD seniors.
