Here's a list of six actions Frisco ISD’s school board approved during 2023.

1. Frisco ISD strikes down proposed amendment to teaching controversial issues policy

After more than an hour of public input and discussion, Frisco ISD officials chose to not add a new critical race theory amendment to its district teaching policy. If it had been added, the amendment would affect the district’s guidelines for addressing controversial issues in the classroom, which are currently based on existing state laws and found in the local version of the district’s policy board manual.

2. Frisco ISD changes public comment policy

An amendment to board policy prioritizing public comments from district stakeholders, such as FISD parents, students, faculty and district residents, was approved 6-1 by board members at a Feb. 27 meeting.


3. Frisco ISD transfer policy to extend to siblings regarding bullying, assault

FISD board members unanimously approved an amendment to the district's transfer policy that could help the siblings of sexual assault or bullying victims put distance between themselves and their siblings’ aggressor.

4. Frisco ISD claims exemption for new law requiring armed security

An exemption to newly passed state legislation regarding security officers due to a lack of available qualified officers was claimed by FISD officials.


5. Frisco ISD joins lawsuit against TEA over A-F accountability rating changes

District officials joined several other Texas school districts in a lawsuit against the Texas Education Agency over its failure to adequately notify school districts on the changes made to the way accountability ratings are calculated.

6. Frisco ISD officials OK 6th employee retention payment for January

The district’s board of trustees unanimously approved a retention incentive for Frisco ISD employees who stayed with the district during the 2023-24 school year.
