Frisco ISD will continue to require masks for staff, visitors and students in grades 3-12, according to a letter sent to district parents March 5.

Students in preschool, kindergarten, first grade or second grade are not required to wear masks in classrooms.

Masks will still be mandatory for students in PK-2 in hallways, common areas, during arrival and dismissal, and on school buses.

Additionally, the district will no longer automatically quarantine entire PK-2 classrooms when a positive COVID-19 case is reported in that group of students. This decision goes into effect immediately.

Instead, campuses will conduct contact tracing to determine which students need to quarantine in affected classrooms.

The decision comes after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced plans March 2 to rescind the state's mask mandate. Abbott's new executive order will go into effect March 10.

Multiple district leaders have consistently said that internal data show that the spread of COVID-19 is minimal on campus when face coverings are worn.
