Frisco ISD students will have additional days off in the first few weeks of the upcoming fall semester as a result of changes to the 2020-21 school calendar approved by the district board of trustees.

The board approved calendar amendments at a July 16 virtual special meeting.

Aug. 21, Aug. 28 and Sept. 4 will now be student holidays and will be professional development days for staff, FISD Chief Academic Officer Wes Cunningham said at the meeting.

"While we are fortunate to have several days of professional learning opportunities for our staff in the days leading up to the first day of school, we need some additional time to provide our staff the professional learning and support necessary for this most unique school year," Cunningham said at the meeting.

Under the changes, students will now attend school on staff development days that were planned for Oct. 9, Feb. 12 and April 26 in the previous 2020-21 calendar.

The first day of school in the 2020-21 calendar remains Aug. 13, and the last day of school remains May 21. All scheduled holidays and reporting periods remain as well.

Frisco ISD also announced at the meeting that the first three weeks of the school year will be in an all-virtual learning environment for all students.
