Good food. Good friends. Good times.

That phrase is the heart and soul behind First Round Draft Bar & Grill, a neighborhood sports bar with a full kitchen.

First Round Draft opened in 2018 in Frisco Square. Husband and wife Ryan and Liz Alford had wanted to open their own restaurant and bar for nearly a decade and secured the naming rights for First Round Draft about nine years ago.

The name is a play on words for the bar’s two major focuses: drinks and sports.

Ryan, a self-proclaimed sports fanatic, said he and Liz always knew they wanted to open a sports bar that was a haven for adults.

“We definitely try to cater to the neighborhood bar experience—an adult experience just to hang out with your friends,” he said. “Our niche is service, good bar food and sports.”

With speedy customer service in mind, the bar’s menu includes food and drinks that can be prepared quickly, Liz said.

“We didn’t want anything fancy, didn’t want anything super detailed,” she said. “We wanted everything to be able to get out to the table quickly and still be good.”

Ironpig Wings are a popular menu item. The dish includes three pork shank wings with fries.

Mini Montes are also a top seller. The miniature Monte Cristo empanadas are dusted with powdered sugar and served with raspberry sauce.

For drinks, the Victor E’s Icee is a popular drink year round. The frozen Jack and Coke is named after the Dallas Stars’ mascot Victor E. Green. The bar also has cocktails named for the Dallas Mavericks’ and the Dallas Cowboys’ mascots.

Sports fans can watch games on one of the many TVs stationed around the dining room. Customers who may want to watch something different can sit at one of three booths with a TV that can change to numerous channels. Patrons can also pass the time with a game of pool or darts or by enjoying the dog-friendly patio.

Though parents could bring their children before 9 p.m., First Round Draft is catered toward adults.

“There’s got to be a place where adults can come and just be adults,” Ryan said.
