Registration is now open to explore the beginnings of one of Frisco’s most anticipated parks.

Big Bluestem Trail is readying to debut to the public within Grand Park. An inaugural trail walk will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 19, according to a city of Frisco news release. The trailhead for Big Bluestem is located off Cotton Gin Road, between Dallas Parkway and Legacy Drive.

“We’re so excited to welcome the community to start exploring this trail,” Mayor Jeff Cheney said in a news release. “Our city has aspired to develop Grand Park for many years. In fact, the idea of Grand Park is one of the projects that inspired me to run for City Council. I believe this trail marks the beginning of developing a legacy park destined to become one of our city’s greatest attractions for residents, visitors and future generations.”

Those who are interested in the Nov. 19 inaugural walk can follow this link to register for the event. Capacity is limited to the first 250 people to sign up, and those who do will receive a commemorative long-sleeved T-shirt included with the $20 registration fee, the release stated. No bikes or pets are allowed for the preview, and strollers are discouraged.

The Big Bluestem Trail is a natural, unpaved 12-foot-wide trail that winds its way through undeveloped parkland for 2.2 miles, the release stated. The landscape is decorated with bois d’arc trees, wildflowers and other grasses.

Work is underway to install a temporary road in Grand Park as well as parking and lighting, according to the release.

“Keep in mind, Grand Park is a multiyear development project,” Parks and Recreation Director Shannon Coates said in the news release. “In Phase 1, we’re keeping it simple by providing access to a beautiful walking trail and natural, open space.”

Following the morning event, the trail will open to the public at 11 a.m. After, trail operating hours will be sunrise to sunset.
