Texas Health Resources and UT Southwestern Medical Center joined Tuesday to celebrate the halfway-construction point of the $270 million Texas Health Frisco hospital at a topping out ceremony.

The event was a private preview in which attendees heard remarks from UT Southwestern Medical Center President Dr. Daniel Podolsky, Texas Health CEO Barclay Berdan and Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney. Attendees were also given the opportunity to partake in a guided hard hat tour inside the hospital and to sign a beam that will later be installed into the connection of the two buildings.

The 20-acre campus will include a 350,000-square-foot hospital and a 120,000-square-foot UT Southwestern Medical Center. The hospital is expected to open in 2019, and will feature an 80-bed acute care hospital with a 24/7 emergency department, surgical services, women's services and a neonatal intensive care unit.

The medical center will house a multi-specialty clinic including an extension of Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute that will provide neurology, spine surgery and a concussion rehabilitation facility, as well as the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center that will offer breast cancer and colon cancer screenings, programs and treatments. The medical center will also provide pediatric specialty services, including ophthalmology, otolaryngology, gastroenterology and dermatology.

The medical staff will consist of independent physicians, UT Southwestern faculty and Texas Health Physicians Group providers.
