Frisco is getting its own TEDx series in 2020. Ten speakers will take to the TEDxFrisco stage at the Black Box Theater to speak on the year’s theme: next level. TEDxFrisco founder and organizer Trillion Small is bringing the independently organized TED event to the city. Small became motivated after delivering her own TEDx talk at Southern Methodist University in November 2018. “Everybody should have this experience,” Small said. Small applied to be an organizer after her TEDx talk. The public speaker and author decided to set up shop in Frisco since she said it is one of the best cities "because of what [Frisco is] doing economically, what they’re doing socially, how they’re building families." Prospective speakers have until Aug. 9 to be nominated or nominate themselves. The selection committee will choose speakers who address the “next level” theme—specifically delving into topics in economics; family; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; medicine; and athletics, Small said. Selected speakers will have 18 minutes to speak at the Jan. 11, 2020, event. After the 10 speakers are announced, there will be 100 tickets up for grabs, she said. Throughout 2020, Small said TEDxFrisco is looking to include events featuring women and children speakers. A TEDxSalon series will also begin sometime in 2020. The series with be either monthly or quarterly for speakers in small venues such as restaurants and coffee shops. With existing entrepreneurial groups such as Inspire Frisco, Small said TEDxFrisco will add to new ideas within the city. “It’s going to have the extra component of raising up new voices and new leaders that we didn’t even know existed,” Small said. “It’s just adding to what [Frisco] is already doing.”
