Pets can donate blood, and the public can adopt a new furry friend at Essentials PetCare’s grand opening in Frisco on Saturday.

Essentials PetCare will offer walk-in services, including routine checkups, vaccines, heartworm and fecal checks, and routine illness treatment.

The clinic kicked off a weekend of back-to-back celebrations July 26 with the opening of Essential PetCare’s Kaufman location, according to a news release. The Frisco grand opening celebration will be July 27 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Walmart shopping center on Stonebrook Parkway.

Collin County Animal Services and the Humane Society of Cedar Lake will be present to facilitate adoptions. Additionally, Canine Blood Heroes will be present to enroll dogs in a canine blood-donation program. The group will offer free blood testing and evaluations for interested owners.

“Many people aren’t aware that dogs can donate blood, just like humans do,” said Dr. Douglas Spiker, co-founder and president of Essentials PetCare, in the release. “There is a critical need for canine blood donations in the Dallas area and we invite those who are interested to stop by the event and learn how they can help save lives.”

The event will also feature activities, giveaways, complimentary refreshments, a coloring contest for children, a drawing for free lab testing and tours of the new clinic with clinic team members.
